Free concerts at noon every other Monday from fall through spring
. . . no wonder the Mini-Concerts are the longest-running and
one of the most popular classical music series at the library!
This series was founded by Glenna Hazleton in 1970 at the Athenaeum,
and has been going strong ever since. The concerts feature both
local and touring musicians, prize-winning students, university
music faculty members, local chamber ensembles. . . and the repertoire
also includes jazz, folk and world music. There are no reservations,
no tickets . . . just line up at the side door of the Athenaeum
before noon. (Donations are always welcome!) Mini-Concerts take
place every other Monday at Noon and last about an hour.

Athenaeum San Diego Mini-Concerts
If you happen to be wandering around downtown San
Diego on every other Monday, stop by the Lyceum Theatre in Horton
Plaza for a free, one-hour concert, featuring some of San Diego's
finest musicians and ensembles. This series, presented by the Athenaeum,
gives audiences the chance to hear some of San Diego's best kept
secrets and enjoy a wide variety of music from jazz to classical.
In 1973, energetic Glenna Hazleton decided to found
another series, this time in the downtown San Diego area. Since
then, 15 free Mini-Concerts have been presented at the Lyceum
each year. Until the fall of 2004, the downtown series was governed
by the organization known as San Diego Mini-Concerts. Then, the
Athenaeum took over this series in addition to the Athenaeum Mini-Concerts
series. We are enjoying a wonderful and exciting interaction between
the two concert series. It is with great appreciation and thanks
that we are thinking of Glenna Hazleton and all the wonderful
friends and volunteers who have made these series such successes
for so many years, and we will do our best to continue their efforts
with the same dedication and enthusiasm.
Children and school groups are encouraged to attend.
Free parking is available in Horton Plaza with validation.
Food and beverage is allowed in the theater for the concerts.
