Drawing portraits can be a daunting endeavor. Professional models are expensive. Friends and family have a difficult time holding still, and don’t get me started on trying to draw from school pictures and fuzzy glamour shots. If you have a mirror, you have a model! By practicing on the most familiar face you know, you are free to make mistakes, experiment, insult (with humor), or flatter shamelessly. Come learn the fundamentals of portrait drawing, while having fun with the most forgiving model you’ll ever meet.

This class has two hours of instruction in the morning, a one-hour lunch break, and two hours of continued instruction in the afternoon.

Materials: Smooth drawing paper 9” x 12” or larger; soft vine charcoal and/or an 8B or 9B woodless graphite pencil with a sharpener; kneaded eraser; pair of scissors; glue stick—not washable if possible; sense of humor—optional but recommended.
