Each season special program books are designed for five of the Athenaeum’s concert series: Jazz at the Athenaeum, Jazz at Scripps Research, Jazz at the Studio, The Barbara and William Karatz Chamber Concert Series, and the Athenaeum Summer Festival. The Athenaeum uses the opportunity to link its two areas of expertise: art and music. Each year since 2002, an artist who has exhibited, or who will exhibit, at the Athenaeum is commissioned to design the cover of these concert programs. Each artist chooses a design that reflects some part of the Athenaeum. A short biography of the artist is included inside the cover. The original becomes part of the Athenaeum’s permanent collection.
