Working outdoors in the landscape is always inspiring—each moment and every place is unique and beautiful. Plein air painting is an excellent way to learn about oil painting technique and triumph over creative issues while enjoying the camaraderie of fellow artists.
The class will emphasize value study, landscape composition, and color theory using a limited palette taught through demonstration and individual instruction.
The first class will meet at the Children’s Pool Lifeguard Station, 850 Coast Blvd., La Jolla, 92037.
Materials: Oil paints: Alizarin Crimson, Cadmium Red Medium, Cadmium Yellow Medium, Cadmium Lemon,* Phthalo Blue, Ultramarine Blue, Titanium White (large tube,) Cadmium Orange Pure.
Brushes: Robert Simmons white natural bristle flat # 40F, sizes 2,3, 4, and 6, and a small, pointed sable brush for detail; small steel palette knife.
Other: portable easel; Compose-It Grid 6-in-1; several 6” x 8” or 8” x 10” canvas boards; Gamsol odorless solvent; small cup or container; 12” x 16” wooden palette; paper towels; sun hat; old shirt.
* Buy only pure Cadmium colors—not hues.
