Cast: starring Peter Sellers, George C. Scott, Sterling Hayden; director, Stanley Kubrick

Runtime: 1 hr. 35 min.

Tagline: The Red-Hot suspense story that's rocking and shocking the world!

An unhinged American general orders a bombing attack on the Soviet Union, triggering a path to nuclear holocaust that a war room full of politicians and generals frantically tries to stop.

Academy Awards, USA: Nominee: Best Picture, Stanley Kubrick; Best Actor in a Leading Role, Peter Sellers; Best Director, Stanley Kubrick; Best Writing, Screenplay Based on Material from Another Medium, Stanley Kubrick, Peter George, Terry Southern

BAFTA Awards: Winner: Best British Art Direction (B/W), Ken Adam; Best British Film; Best Film from any Source; Nominee: Best British Screenplay, Stanley Kubrick, Peter George, Terry Southern; Best Foreign Actor, Sterling Hayden; Best British Actor, Peter Sellers

Memorable Quote: President Merkin Muffley: “Gentlemen, you can't fight in here! This is the War Room.”

Fun Trivia: The War Room contains a large table of food because Stanley Kubrick intended to end the film with a custard pie fight between the Russians and the Americans. He decided not to use the footage because he found it too farcical to fit with the satirical nature of the rest of the film. The only known public showing of the pie fight scene was at the 1999 screening of the film at London's National Film Theatre, following Kubrick's death.
