The Athenaeum presents the first US exhibition of Mexican artist Mariana Magdaleno’s work, inspired by her long-held interest in botany. The exhibition includes 25 new watercolors based on research conducted on species of plants from throughout San Diego County, including around the Athenaeum and from several local private gardens. Also included is graphic work first published in Atlas botánico mínimo de la Santa María La Ribera, the abbreviated Botanical Atlas of the Santa María La Ribera, an editorial project of inSite/Casa Gallina, based on a botanical inventory undertaken in a densely populated neighborhood of Mexico City.
