In the age of “the painted word,” our North Reading Room exhibition Images Louder Than Words hoped to relay meaning within the context of Conceptual artists’ iconography. We displayed some books by teams—Gilbert & George and Fischli & Weiss—as well as books by the iconoclastic John Baldessari and other cutting-edge creators of books in our Artists’ Books Collection.
