The piece Applied done by Richard Allen Morris plays tricks on the eye and draws the viewer in with its seemingly tactile nature. “Richard Allen Morris’ paintings are small and so thick with paint you might start conjuring up associations with frosting on cakes or scoops of ice cream. It is this intense attention to paint and the creation of sensuous, beautifully colored surfaces that makes Morris such a superb painter.” Robert L. Pincus, San Diego Union Tribune, 6/13, 2010.

Richard Allen Morris is a painter with a keen sense of observation whose work incorporates well executed wit and a preference for the bizarre. Morris was born in 1933 in Long Beach, California. His work exhibits painterly skill with fresh ingenuity and an almost theatrical boldness. He distills the world around him in a style that is a masterful blend of Abstract Expressionism and Pop Art. Morris uses sly humor and wit to poke fun at the art world. His interest in comics and caricatures can be seen through his exaggerated and dramatic style of painting. He explores beyond just paint through experimentation with mixed media and three dimensional painting.

He has been a prominent and steadfast figure in the San Diego art scene for many decades. His work is featured in many solo exhibitions both nationally and internationally including The Daros Collection, Zurich, Switzerland; the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego; The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; the Mandeville Gallery, University of California San Diego, La Jolla; the Southwestern College Art Gallery; Chula Vista; California Institute of the Arts, Los Angeles; the Cue Art Foundation, New York; and the Museum Haus Lange, Krefeld, Germany. Morris lives and works in San Diego, California.
