Open Art Studio for Womxn
Under the leadership of Omar Lopex, former bilingual manager of the AAC, the Athenaeum launched a new outreach program in Logan Heights.
Titled Open Art Studio for Womxn, the program provides studio space, art supplies, guidance, and resources to female residents from the community. Free for all participants, art supplies will be provided. Light snacks and refreshments are included, and all COVID-19 safety protocols will be observed and implemented. All ages and levels are welcome. The studio space is located in the AAC at 1955 Julian Avenue, San Diego 92113.

Athenaeum Art Center launches a new community outreach program, WOMXN’S OPEN ART STUDIO, in the Logan Heights community
The Athenaeum Music & Arts Library is pleased to announce a new outreach program, Womxn’s Open Art Studio, at the Athenaeum Art Center (AAC) in Logan Heights.
About the program:
The new program, Womxn’s Open Art Studio, will provide studio space, art supplies, guidance, and resources, to female residents of the Logan Heights, for free. Open to any artistic & craft medium, including sewing, fabric arts, photography, music, drawing, etc. Interested participants can call or email to schedule time in the studio. Light snacks & refreshments will be provided. All COVID-19 safety protocols will be observed and implemented.
Eligibility:
The program is open to female residents of the Logan Heights neighborhood. All ages and levels, professional, amateur, & non-artists, are welcome.

About the Athenaeum Art Center
In 2016, the Athenaeum Music & Arts Library expanded its offerings to a satellite location in Logan Heights, the Athenaeum Art Center (AAC), which is being developed as a multicultural community center and hub for local artists. The AAC features an art school studio, a print studio, and an events space, with a bilingual manager, for exhibitions, lectures, and concerts. The AAC offers a wide variety of art classes from painting and sculpture to multimedia and printmaking through the School of the Arts. The Athenaeum Art Center is located at 1955 Julian Avenue in Logan Heights in the Bread & Salt complex, open Tuesday and Thursday, 10:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m., and for scheduled programs and classes.
About the Athenaeum Music & Arts Library
The Athenaeum Music & Arts Library, located in the heart of La Jolla, in San Diego County, is one of only 16 nonprofit membership libraries in the United States. Founded in 1899, the Athenaeum provides library resources in music and the arts and presents over 200 programs and cultural events annually at four venues in four different zip codes in San Diego. This rare cultural institution offers a depth and accessibility of resources and programs found nowhere else in the region. The library, devoted exclusively to music and art, has an outstanding and ever-expanding collection of books, periodicals, reference material, compact discs, DVDs, sheet music, and librettos, as well as one of the most significant collections of artists' books in Southern California. The Athenaeum also presents an eclectic, year-round schedule of art exhibitions, concerts (classical, jazz, acoustic, and new music), lectures, studio art classes through its School of the Arts, tours, and special events. The library is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The library is closed on Sunday and Monday. Members can check out library materials for a modest annual fee. El nuevo programa, Estudio de Arte Libre para Mujerxs, proporcionará espacio de estudio, materiales de arte, orientación y recursos a las mujerxs residentes de Logan Heights, de forma gratuita. Abierto a cualquier medio artístico y artesanal (costura, artes textiles, fotografía, música, dibujo, etc.) Los participantes interesados pueden llamar o enviar un correo electrónico para programar un tiempo en el estudio.
