Linda May Han Oh moves from heavy metal to jazz with aplomb

Linda May Han Oh has earned praise for her sterling playing in the bands of jazz greats Pat Metheny and Joe Lovano. But this Malaysian-born bassist and composer is equally notable as a band leader in her own right. A resourceful musician, she now has three solo albums to her credit that showcase her rich bass work and sinuous songwriting skills. Intriguingly, before embracing jazz in Australia, where she grew up, Oh played bass in a rock band that specialized in covering Rage Against The Machine and Metallica. She has performed in San Diego before, but her Thursday concert will be her first with her own band. It should be memorable.
