AAC Art Studio
$120 + $20 materials fee
Enrollment limited to 15 students
Join professional artists Nestor “Spel” Mondragon and Israel “Shente” Elizondo in an exciting graffiti workshop on Saturday, August 13, at the Athenaeum Art Center in Logan Heights. In this five-hour-long class, using stencils made under the guidance of the artists, students will learn to make art as “sprayers.” Stencil graffiti is a form of street art used by the HEM Crew and other artists, such as Banksy and Shepard Fairey. After mastering the art of stenciling, including aerosol techniques, students will create a collective class mural as a final, collaborative piece.
All materials, including water-based spray paint, nozzles, protective gear, and stencil-making items will be provided with the $20 materials fee.
Spel and Shente, cofounders of HEM (Hecho en Mexico) Crew, are currently exhibiting their work at the Athenaeum Art Center at 1955 Julian Avenue, San Diego 92113, and will present an artists’ talk at 5 p.m., Saturday, August 13, during the Barrio Art Crawl.
For more information, please contact AAC Bilingual Manager Griselda Rojas at (619) 269-1981 or grosas@ljathenaeum.org.
Immediately after you register, look for a confirmation email and receipt from Eventbrite.
The safety of our students, faculty, and staff continues to be our highest priority and as such, attendees for all Athenaeum classes and workshops will either need to be vaccinated or test negative for COVID-19. In addition, masks are highly recommended, but not required. See below for details:
Fully vaccinated students must present proof of vaccination to the instructor at the first class meeting. Acceptable proof of vaccination:
1. the physical COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card issued at the time of vaccination;
2. a photograph of the COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card; or
3. a digital vaccination record (which can be obtained at https://myvaccinerecord.cdph.ca.gov/)
Students who do not receive COVID-19 vaccinations due to medical reasons or sincerely held religious beliefs can attend classes and workshops but will be required to present the negative results of a COVID-19 PCR test taken within 72 hours of each class meeting. Tests other than PCR, such as a rapid test or over-the-counter test, will not be accepted.
Please note that our policy may change as new guidelines and recommendations become available.
Stay safe and be well! And thank you for your continued support of the AAC.
