On December 7 at 7:00pm, guitar legend Peter Sprague will perform a duo set with longtime creative partner, vocalist Leonard Patton. One of the central figures in San Diego’s jazz scene since the late 1970s, Peter Sprague is revered worldwide for his mastery of the jazz guitar and his original musical style. Among his fans are Pat Metheny, who called Peter, “A great musician who also happens to be a great guitar player” and Chick Corea, who called him, “an amazingly creative artist.” For this live stream set he is joined by San Diego-based vocalist Leonard Patton, who also doubles on hand percussion. Peter and Leonard always offer high-spirited music of the highest caliber that is sure to delight!

First up on November 16 at 7:00pm is the Anthony Wilson Quartet, led by L.A.-based guitarist/vocalist/composer Anthony Wilson with stellar pianist Gerald Clayton, drummer Jay Bellerose, and bassist David Piltch. JazzTimes commented that Wilson’s music is, “alternately breezy, fierce and openhearted, and commands your ear and your emotions from start to finish.” This Athenaeum concert will include the world premiere of a new suite of music dedicated to the late Congressman John Lewis.
