Recent Discoveries/Seasonal Chronicles: Michael S. Moore
November 19, 1994–January 7, 1995
San Francisco-based artist Michael Moore exhibited works from an ongoing series of landscape paintings of the California and Nevada deserts and the mountainous expanses of Colorado. Installed on the gallery’s main and side walls were more than 100 watercolors on paper, hung in large grid formats. The conventions of the grid encouraged viewers to see the paintings as unified entities, allowing the shapes of the mountains and deserts to become indecipherable, organic forms, flowing from one panel to the next. Larger, individual watercolor and oil paintings from this series were also included in the exhibition.
