Artists’ Books Juried Exhibition
July 27–August 31, 1996
The library presented its first juried exhibition of artists’ books. Juror for the exhibition was artist and writer Susan King, herself a book artist. She is the founder of the Los Angeles-based Paradise Press, and her work is internationally known and collected. First place went to Laura Stickney and Wilma Mendillo for Handbook, second to Teresa Salkin for Ballerina, third to Deane Gage for Mithridate’s Bitter Little Pills, and honorable mentions to Joan Crone (Letters of My Life), Merilyn Pritt (The Root of the Root of Yourself), and Jim Machacek (Secret Discoveries of the Apollo Space Mission).
