Shelf Life: Books in Paintings and Sculpture
June 26–July 31, 2004
The British-born and LA-based artist exhibited recent paintings and sculpture focusing on books -- books on shelves, books flying, books falling. In his San Diego debut, Boshier treated the books as both an object and a repository of information. In some works, the books were images only, and the arrangement almost architectural. In others, the books were full of overt, and often satirical, information. Boshier studied at the Royal College of Art in London in the early 1960s. He has worked in many different media, including drawing, printmaking, sculpture, film, books, installations, and photography.
