ROBERT KUSHNER
Scriptorium: Devout Exercises of the Heart
June 23–July 28, 2012
Known of the founder of the Pattern and Decoration movement, New York City resident Robert Kushner exhibits a group of over one thousand small drawings and paintings of flowers and plants executed on pages from discarded books dating from 1500 to 1920. The flowers range from African violet to zinnia, the languages of the book pages from Ancient Greek to Yiddish. With a BA in Visual Arts from the University of California, San Diego, Kushner was described in a 2007 Artforum article as “arguably the most significant decorative artist working today.”
