I love to introduce new, innovative techniques that promise to enrich artists as well as their work. In this class we will be painting figures in an abstract and expressive way. Form, mood, and emotional impact will be our primary concerns. We will look to works by artists such as Richard Diebenkorn, David Park, and Nathan Oliveira for inspiration.

Materials: Paints: acrylics, oils, or watercolors; I use acrylics. Supports: heavy duty paper, canvas board, canvas, raw canvas, etc.—your choice.

Other: brushes; water can; paper towels or rags; palette; any experimental tools you wish. Optional: Bring reference materials.

*I will be bringing all materials needed for the novel techniques that I will introduce—i.e., photocopies, boards, gels, and some paint.

Max students: 12
