Retablos: Imagen de arte popular religioso
May 28–July 16, 1994
This exhibition of Mexican retablos featured selections from the permanent collection of The Mexican Museum, San Francisco. This collection of exvotos, small votive paintings on tin-plated metal, and retablos, small saint paintings, reflects the historic fusion of the Old and New Worlds that comprised the heritage of Mexico’s Colonial period (1521–1810). The exhibition also included retablos from private San Diego Collections.
