MICHAEL BISHOP & LYNN CRISWELL
Objects and Subjects: Michael Bishop & Lynn Criswell
April 2–May 21, 1994
Northern California-based artists Michael Bishop and Lynn Criswell, whose three-dimensional and two-dimensional work is distinct yet complementary in both style and content, presented recent works from 1992–94. Bishop, Professor of Fine Art at California State University, Chico, exhibited freestanding sculptural pieces in cast metal and mixed media. His pieces are often triggered by “ready-made” components, which he searches for in second-hand stores. Lynn Criswell’s assemblage paintings adopt techniques used in three-dimensional work, which reflects her training as a sculptor. She constructs multiple wood panels of varying heights and widths to which she layers plaster, color, imagery, metal work, and found objects.
