RUSSELL FORESTER
New Thought on Old Themes, Works on Paper and Plugged-in Art
January 16–February 27, 1999
Russell Forester had a six-decade career as an architect, painter, sculptor, draftsman, graphic designer, industrial designer, and writer. He studied at the Institute of Design in Chicago where he was greatly influenced by the interdisciplinary edict of the Bauhaus. Forester’s paintings, drawings, and sculptures are in the collections of the Guggenheim Museum, New York; the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego; the San Diego Museum of Art; and the Frederick R. Weisman Museum at Pepperdine University, among others. This exhibition included new works of pen-and-ink drawings and collages which centered on words and numbers. Also included were his signature electronic sculptures that incorporate light and sound.
